Meridian Water, a major regeneration programme led by Enfield Council, is set to become a thriving new district and hub of activity in North London. The ambitious development will provide 10,000 homes, community facilities, and thousands of job opportunities, transforming the urban context of Enfield Tottenham and the Lee Valley Regional Park.
To help facilitate this transformation, Urban Symbiotics and Hanna Benihoud Studio were commissioned to develop a comprehensive inclusive public realm, signage and wider wayfinding strategy for the Meridian Water masterplan. The team’s goal was to create a hardscape public realm strategy that reflected the diversity of the surrounding community, inviting them to explore and engage with the new development.
Through a collaborative approach that included inclusive design principles, Urban Symbiotics and Hanna Benihoud Studio sought to create a strategy that was not only functional but also engaging. The wayfinding strategy was user focussed and insight led and designed to guide users to and through the development, utilising opportunities and mitigating current barriers, while also creating an engaging and memorable experience.
In addition, the team also created a range of meanwhile signage design and routes that provided opportunities for residents and visitors to interact and engage with the development. This was designed with the aim of creating a sense of community and social cohesion, ensuring that the Meridian Water development is a place where people can live, work, and play.
Overall, the inclusive public realm strategy developed by Urban Symbiotics and Hanna Benihoud Studio aims to create a vibrant, welcoming, and accessible environment that reflects the diversity of the local community. The Meridian Water development promises to be an exciting and innovative addition to North London’s urban landscape.
