Urban Symbiotics has been appointed to develop a vision and regeneration framework for Dagenham Heathway. Dagenham Heathway is at the cusp of
change and provides an exciting opportunity to start a new chapter in its history as a vibrant and inclusive twenty-first-century district centre for Barking and Dagenham. As the Borough’s second town centre, it has played an essential role at the heart of the Becontree and Dagenham communities. The study will discover and build on its overt and hidden potential to create a unique space for Dagenham Heathway, co-created by its community and key stakeholders.
Engagement activities have included: business interviews, pop-up stalls, street conversations, ideas walls, an interactive Christmas tree that captured ideas and insights, one to one interviews, a community mural, a youth-based focus group and the establishment of a community pop up shop. Urban Symbiotics is currently developing a forum for Dagenham Heathway, a micro-site and operating “no. 30 -My Heathway” community engagement shop.
