Urban Symbiotics was chosen to join property developer Landsec’s expert advisory group to contribute to their white paper titled “Shaping Successful Future Cities.” Urban Symbiotics were involved in a process of “pressure-testing” alongside fellow panel of experts including representatives from Google BIG, Futurecity King’s College London, Jacobs Urban Agenda, and dRMM, using the Delphi forecasting method.
The paper presents possible scenarios that cities may face in the next 10-plus years, based on the decisions that decision-makers make today. The paper is based on an “outside-in” review of existing forecast material by Landsec’s strategy team.
Behaviour change is also critical to success, says our Urban Symbiotics director and co-founder Stephanie Edwards AA Dip ARB RIBA . ‘Whilst there tends to be a focus on top-down governance and infrastructure change, the key to enabling a city of the future is to create mass behaviour change and citizen-focused climate preparation and responsiveness.’
By working with a dynamic group of experts and using a robust forecasting method, the white paper provides an objective assessment of the possible scenarios that cities will face in the future. The paper’s focus on behaviour change and citizen engagement in climate preparation and responsiveness is visionary and aligns with the urgent need to address the climate crisis.
